2016 Year End Wrap Up: Top 20 Female Music Artists
by Staff Editor

Oakland’s very own Kamaiyah soared to fame this year and did so in a quick manner. Her March 2016 project, A Good Night In the Ghetto, served hip-hop fans a breath of fresh air, and one of many west coast killer projects this year. She was featured on YG’s and Drake’s “Why You Always Hatin?” from the Still Brazy masterpiece, and was also the opener on the FDT Tour. 2016 was her coming out party, while 2017 will be her takeover year. Kill it, Yaya.

Dreezy bodied the year as a fairly new artist at the young age of 22. She pushed out her Interscope released album, No Hard Feelings, in July, led by her hit single “Body” featuring Jeremih. Fans were able to enjoy the Chicago native’s unique musical style as she teamed with industry heavy-hitters Gucci Mane, Jeremih, Wale, and T-Pain. Stay on the look out for more from this promising rising star.

Some may make the mistake to say that Alicia Keys 2016 was a quiet one. The R&B songstress was crowned with a new role as a coach on the voice but she slid back on the music scene with the release of her single “In Common.” The single was left field for many that appreciated the past work of Keys at it incorporated some of the dancehall vibes that had corralled the ears of the industry this past summer. The follow up to “In Common” was her album Here and appearing on grand stages like Chance the Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring Day in Southside, Chicago. Keys had a bigger year than you may realize.

Tinashe was set to take her show on the road with the Joyride World Tour but put a close to it because of her urge to get back in the studio. The 23 year-old singer gave us a handful of singles before arriving with a digital album and a short film called Nightride much to the delight of her fans. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Tinashe in terms of releases the last year or so, but if you listen to what she put out, you’ll know why she’s on the list.

When you become the female hip-hop face of Jay Z’s Roc Nation you know that you have talent. That was only one of the accomplishments of Rapsody in 2016. Shortly after she provided her existing fans and newcomers with the Crown EP, a dazzling display of what pointed the ears of the Roc’s brass. Year in and year out, Rapsody shows us why she’s a force to be reckoned with.
This list wack. The fact that Beyoncé is above Adele Rihanna and Ariana for 2016 is ridiculous…2016 was a decent Beyoncé year. But definitely not no 1
Are you dumb? The Superbowl!!! Beyoncé had the highest selling album of 2016, FORMATION WORLD TOUR Made Her Over 256 Million Alone!!! Highest Grossing Tour of 2016, Became The Most Awarded VMA Artist In History, Became The Most Female Grammy Nominated Artist, Where Have You Been??
Gtfoh, both Drake and Adele sold more records than Beyoncé this year. Awards don’t mean shit, since they are skewed and plus Beyoncé was exposed for saying she won’t perform at awards show unless they let her win. She is an ego-centric maniac. She deserves the no 4. Spot not 1.
Worldwide Beyoncé sold more than Drake factsssss
You’re delusional af. You Prolly one of those “beehive” people. Adele had the highest first weeks sales in HISTORY. She sold over 3 million copies in 1 week. And stop deluting facts and go use Google, Drake sold more than Beyoncé and it’s facts. There is no reason for Beyoncé to be number 1. Karen Civil prolly put her at number for some agenda. She is tight with all those corrupt people Hillary Clinton, jay -z ect.
Like i said im not a beehive but i give credit where its due and 2016 was def the year of Beyonce you just proved me right again adele album came out in 2015 she had the records of 2015 Beyoncé had the best selling album of 2016 and she sold more than Drake WORLDWIDE dumbfuck DRAKE is NOT selling outside the US facts
Also Adele might of outsold but critics gave her album a low score Beyoncé had the highest critically acclaimed and best selling first wekk sales and sales ww
