In your new mixtape, 4 Reasons, you have the lead single “Wat U Mean.” Talk to us about the meaning behind that track?
Dae Dae: Yeah, “Wat U Mean” (Family To Feed) details some of the hardships I’ve gone through, but somehow managed to over come them and see the positive out of them. I have the powerful hook, “Got a family to feed, they dependin’ on me,” to “I came up with the two bars while I was pouring concrete, it’s a declaration.”
Then I talk about my family brings me closer to everybody else who has the same responsibilities out there. I’m showing it’s possible to take care of the ones you love, but you’ve got to work like you’ve never worked.
Leading into your career, who else do you want work with?
Dae Dae: I know I already mentioned these people, but Andre 3000 and Anthony Hamilton have truly have impacted my music career, and I would really like to link with them.
What are key lessons you are learning early on?
Dae Dae: I’ve learned to sacrifice a lot of things. There have been times where I’ve given up several things to accomplish bigger things in life. There’s been a lot of late nights turning into early morning, and I’ve left people behind who just weren’t there for me. But overall, keep working and stay humble because everything’s going to come at its ideal moment.
What are your upcoming plans and goals for the rest of 2016?
Dae Dae: We have a lot of things in store. I’m working on my next project, which is my mixtape 5 Reasons and I really want that to be better than any of my latest projects. I want to continue connecting with my fans and listeners. Overall, I just want to be like TuPac – a legend. I want to leave my mark behind and I want to be the best!
