So Gucci Mane is Back…What Does That Mean for ATL & Hip-Hop?

gucci mane first day out tha feds

The Trap Gods have worked their magic and Gucci Mane is once again walking among all of us in hip-hop culture. A summer of anticipation and #FreeGucci tweets that would lead us to Guwop’s September release will now be replaced with more anthems, quotables and bangers from Mr. East Atlanta. But what does his presence do for Atlanta and hip-hop as a whole?

If we take a trip to the A, we see Gucci’s influence everywhere in music. Jeezy may be the sound of the hustlers and T.I. can be the King, but Gucci is the hip-hop heart of Atlanta. You have seen the tweets of who Big Gucci Sosa has introduced us to, if not, thank him for making us familiar with Young Thug, Future, Waka Flocka, Migos — the list is endless.

Who’s next up out of ATL? I bet Gucci knows and is ready to introduce you to him or her.

Before we happen to get a new Gucci prodigy, however, expect new music from Gucci himself first. The man is never short on words or songs and with his immediate reporting to the studio following being released from behind bars, you know he has something to say and bangers to release. With pictures surfacing of Guwop next to Zaytoven in the lab — a match made in heaven since EA Sportscenter was the hottest tape in the streets — flooding the net, you know Gucci is planning a summer takeover. He and Zay are the Kobe and Shaq of the trap…get them championships ready.

But for hip-hop what does it mean? Who’s the go-to guy for bangers right now?

Some may argue the continuous, but recently quiet, onslaught of records from Future is enough to make him the leader of Atlanta and bangers. Young Dolph, who is no stranger to Gucci as they have teamed for East Atlanta Memphis in the past, is the current benchmark for bringing banging trap efforts to the scene. In the same city the longstanding Yo Gotti may be hotter than ever after his biggest career hit “Down in the DM” and a strong follow up in “Law.”

With all of that said, Gucci’s return to the scene sets up some hurdles for supremacy and owning the streets. With a record as strong as Gucci, are you going to bet against him? You would be foolish to do so, he’s been here before and friend or foe there can only be one Trap God.

There’s a reason that the internet exploded when Gucci got out early; it’s because we missed him. We received music from him while incarcerated, but the presence of Mr. La Flare was lacking. Whether you are a fan or not, think he is going to take back the trap or become a part of the masses, one thing that’s easily agreeable on is that Gucci Mane being free, and down some weight, is definitely a good thing.

Welcome back, Guwop!
