Best New Artist

Nominees: Dej Loaf, Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd, Sam Smith, Tinashe

Jay: Fetty Wap – This was a tough category to start with because all of the nominees are worthy. With that being said, Fetty hasn’t missed yet and he’s clearly just getting started. The industry needs the refreshment that is Fetty Wap, and in my opinion, he ousted the competition for Best New Artist this year.

Lindsey: Fetty Wap – Even though some were whispering about a one-hit-wonder status with him, he’s proving that him AND his team know what they’re doing when they step in the booth. He’s been so strategic about his subject matter matching his beat selections that social media has been begging for a full EP from him.

Sabrina: Fetty Wap – Fetty is owning “the internets” and festivals right now. I can’t go a day without seeing his name, which shows people really digg his music. He has a great team behind him, and he has proven he is not a one-hit-wonder.

Lupe: Fetty Wap – This one’s a tough category but, let’s be honest. Fetty is blowing up and he’s proving that he and his team have what it takes. We definitely need his unique vibe in the hip-hop/rap culture right now.

Masani: Fetty Wap – Fetty seems to be having the best year ever in hip-hop. Performing for celebrity parties and still constantly putting on for his Remy Boyz without selling out in the midst of the glitz and glam of high profile performances speaks to his character. Also, there isn’t a Fetty Wap hook that I have come across that I don’t vibe to.

Breanna: Rae Sremmurd – It was a close call between Rae Sremmurd and Fetty Wap. There isn’t anyone who doesn’t know “Trap Queen” or “No Type” and they have the hottest artists hopping on both of their remixes. However, the fact that Rae Sremmurd is not only appearing on hit shows like “Wildin Out,” and performing at college homecomings, they’re also touring with Nicki Minaj almost as soon as they hit the music scene.

Shawn: Rae Sremmurd – The Ear Drummers duo has been hot since last summer. “No Flex Zone,” “No Type,” and now “This Could Be Us” were or currently are radio staples. I like the Fetty movement, but this one is for Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy.
