The landscape of music is always changing, would you say there is a “set genre” that your music fits in?

Just Ivy: No, I’m still experimenting. If I had to choose I would say it’s like a blend between pop and urban music right now. I’m still looking to find my way.

Having big features from some of hip-hop’s finest like Akon and DJ Khaled, how would you describe your relationship with the genre?

Just Ivy: I love hip-hop. The music is in my blood. My favorite artist is Biggie, he has so many great songs.

If you had to make a hip-hop party playlist, which artists would be on it?

Just Ivy: Drake, Usher, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled collaborations – whoever he is working with.

How has your upbringing in Europe influenced your music?

Just Ivy: I think I don’t have a genre yet because there’s so much different kinds of music there as well. With American music together and it’s creatively influenced me [to mix things together.]

You performed a lot as a kid, do you still feel the same nervousness before a performance?

Just Ivy: Yes, I do. Every time I’m about to perform it’s just like I haven’t before. I try to talk to myself and calm myself down because you can’t have a drink to calm down. So, I just sit there and try to calm my nerves.

When you’re back stage do you prefer to be by yourself or have people around you?

Just Ivy: I prefer to have people around me. My dancers who are performing and my whole team.

In the music industry, do you think it takes a male’s influence to be successful?

Just Ivy: Yes, because it’s very important to have someone looking over you and having someone there to be protect you. Girls can be vulnerable. They for sure need somebody to stand behind them.

What can you tell me about your upcoming album?

Just Ivy: I’m so excited about it. It’s still a work-in-progress but I won’t give too much away. We’re keeping it all a secret. It’s coming together well, we’re looking to release it at the top of next year.
