By now, most have caught on to the fact that Rae Sremmurd is “Ear Drummers” spelled backwards. What made you decide to go with that name?

Slim Jimmy: We kind of wanted to pay homage to Mike Will.

How did you guys link up with him?

Slim Jimmy: We were doing shows in Mississippi for a long time and then we did a few shows for BET. We started making music with some of the guys from Ear Drummers, and Mike Will liked it, so he signed us.

Are there any pieces of advice that Mike’s given you guys as far as making hit records?

Swae Lee: Nah, just go in there and go hard! We just try to break a barrier. We have a lot to learn.

Mike and Miley Cyrus are pretty close. Have you gotten a chance to work with her or hang out with her?

Swae Lee: Yea, she’s real cool. Good vibes.

I saw that you guys got to hang out with Meek Mill earlier this month. How was it hanging with him and DJ Khaled?

Swae Lee: Man, they’re definitely icons. They’re some of the realest people we’ve met. They started from the bottom and are now making it.

Slim Jimmy: People don’t understand. A lot of people don’t understand what you go through to get where they are.

There have been some comparisons to Kriss Kross with you guys.

Swae Lee: It’s a little early for that, but I can see where they got that from! That’s funny. We definitely listened to that song like, “Jump, jump!” [laughs]

What’s coming up for the rest of the year for you guys?

Slim Jimmy: We’re going to the moon!

Swae Lee: Nah, but we’re dropping our debut EP Sremm Life very soon!
