DESHAWN: So Remy Ma is back on the streets and in the booth, female rappers don’t worry about a thing. No knock to Remy, she is going to be back on wax and thrive, but the reigning ladies in hip-hop have nothing to worry about with her presence around. Examining the current landscape of female hip-hop there are two ladies leading the way, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea, and they are cemented to a place where they currently can’t be touched.

Remy Ma isn’t taking aim at either artist or any other woman that’s rising but in a field where the artist are marginalized, the thought of threats will exist. Iggy Azalea and her “Fancy” cut are nestled within the Top 40 charts as well as pop and hip-hop radio. There is no worry about Remy Ma crossing over, that’s just not her style. She’s street, gritty, representing an aggressive side of hip-hop. Looking at Nicki Minaj, can her thrown be touched by anyone? Maybe a hybrid of Remy, Missy Elliott, Rah Digga, wherever she is, and Azelea Banks ego can attempt, but the Barbie is balling.

What’s also good for the women in rap, is Remy has a spot that is just awaiting her presence. The hard spitting, raw bars female isn’t present in hip-hop and she is needed. The woman that will hop on the hard tracks like “They Don’t Love You No More,” and won’t be found on your local pop radio channel is Remy. Most importantly she is pure New York City rap. She is in a lane that is so far left from the likes of the aforementioned, that no one should be threatened.
