We only hear bad things about your childhood, so tell me one of the good memories from growing up in Maryland.

Logic: I remember the pool. It was right outside the apartment complex where all the homies would play. We’d play games like Manhunt and things like that, or we’d be hanging with the ladies at the park after dark. Just hanging with all the homies was some of the best times.

What’s a lowkey eating spot you can only find in Gaithersburg, MD?

Logic: There’s this place called “Dog House Ale” in Gaithersburg and it’s amazing. I always get the BBQ Ale House burger. That’s probably my favorite thing to eat.

Do you have any studio rituals when you’re recording?

Logic: I wouldn’t say ritual, but one thing I have is this really fine statue type of thing – a collectible – of Agent Smith from the Matrix . Yeah, he’s with me every time I’m in the studio, anywhere I go.

What’s one of the biggest misconceptions of being signed to a major? A lot of people think if you get a major deal with a huge signing bonus, that’s it.

Logic: Let’s say you sign for a million dollars or something, right? You only get a percentage of that as an artist in the first place and you have to literally pay back everything you earn. It’s called a “living advance.” The label will literally give you enough money to live long enough to record an album [laughs].

Your music and your message has always been more important to you than the money, has that changed now that you’ve signed?

Logic: Money was never the issue, man. I was making a lot of money off of touring and merchandise way before I signed the deal. And the funny thing is, that shit hasn’t really changed. Don’t get me wrong though, there’s plenty of money to make with music if you go about it the right way, but I don’t see myself getting as much money off of my records as I will through touring and merchandise.
