Civil Court: Should Jay Electronica Drop His Debut Album This Year?
by Staff Editor
JASON: Jay Electronica has got to be one of the most impressive artists of our generation. We’re talking about a man who’s only dropped two really great singles with “Exhibit A” and “Exhibit C,” not release his debut album that he’s been talking about for four years, and still have hip-hop fans by the neck whenever he wants to. While there were several windows in the last four years for Jay Elect to let loose Act II, now couldn’t be a better time.
This past weekend at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, Jay Electronica headlined the show along side Raekwon. He brought out J. Cole, Talib Kweli, and Mac Miller before bringing out the big dog (and his Roc Nation boss) Jay Z. They performed their remix of “We Made It,” and then Jay Z did what several artists would only dream of happening. Hov laced Jay Electronica with the official Roc-a-Fella chain, which is the ultimate stamp of approval and quite frankly a huge deal. Now that Jay E has seemingly woke up, Hov has made it clear that it’s his time to shine if he wants to.
Hey Jay Electronica, you have everybody’s attention again and unlike previous times, everyone’s on your side. Hov just gave you the Roc chain, you dismantled “We Made It” and your other newly released tracks, and for crying out loud it’s been five years since you told us Act II was on the way. Do the right thing and drop the album this year while your window is wide open.
