Some people might not know this, but you really got your start through writing for other artists like Snoop. How did that come about?

Problem: I’ve been stressing this in a lot of interviews, so let me be clear – he does not need me to write for him *laughs* It was more so that he was giving opportunities to young rappers at the time and we were there to take advantage of it. But yea, I guess I can boast that my first rap check was for writing for Snoop Dogg. More importantly, I learned a whole lot of shit that’s stuck with me today.

Tell me a little bit about Diamond Lane and what message you guys are spreading?

Diamond Lane is really a family, a crew of guys, who have known each other for 10-15 years. One day, we decided — my CEO decided — to put all of our resources together and invest in ourselves. We’re really representing a new genre, a new wave of people from Los Angeles, and we’re representing the growth of our culture, as well as forward movement with whatever it is that you may be doing. Diamond Lane – moving fast, getting out of traffic

After dropping 3 projects in 2013 – the Million Dollar Afro collab with IAMSU!, The Separation with DJ Drama, and the Understand Me EP – you’re now gearing up for the debut album. Do you have a title yet?

Nah, not yet. Diamond Lane America is really what we want to call it, but I don’t want anything stuck yet.

What can we expect from the album?

You’ll be able to see the growth of me as an artist, me as a man, and the things that I represent will be on full display with this album. When I say “Diamond Lane”, you damn sure will know what Diamond Lane Music is.

The 2014 XXL Freshmen Cover is coming up and it’s being said that you might make the list. Do those kinds of things matter to you?

Yeah, I heard something about that. Man, I don’t know, my mind is so focused on what we’re doing and nothing else. It’s no disrespect to them, but my only focus is Diamond Lane Music and how we can take this company to the next level. Everything else just comes with that. So no, my goal isn’t to make the Freshmen cover, it’s not to win anything — it’s to make sure Diamond Lane Music is thee fucking hottest label to ever exist, ever.

You recently did a commercial with Neil Patrick Harris for Neuro Sleep, which was unexpected, but awesome nonetheless. Is acting in your future?

Shout out to Ms. Jenkins for making that happen, man. She owns Neuro Sleep, real good person. And I mean, I don’t know man, you never know where Chachi might end up *laughs*. We’ll have to let time tell that one bro.
