Face it, R&B is alive and breathing. You just can’t argue it anymore. Hip-hop is certainly having an incredible 2015 thus far, whether you like the turn up sound, trap music, conscious rap, or anything else — there’s something out there for everyone this year.

While hip-hop has been notoriously flourishing in the last 6 months, R&B hasn’t been receiving the same love, and they should be. No, it’s not the 80’s and 90’s when R&B was really thriving, but don’t close your ears and give up just yet. A whole new era in the R&B market has come alive, and even though the sale numbers aren’t matching rap’s increasing success, it has a strong and consistent heart beat that can’t be ignored.

The new genre of Trap&B has made a strong impact on the culture of soul music, despite the criticism that it has tainted the true sound the genre represents. But don’t get it twisted, the sounds in music will continue to evolve over time just as it has for the last several years. Even though trap music is currently blending in hard with R&B’s tough crowd, the genre’s true sound hasn’t been pushed to the point of no return.

This year, tons of rising artists have dropped incredible and true R&B projects already. From Kehlani’s mixtape, (which has been mistaken for an album) You Should Be Here, to Elijah Blake’s Shadows & Diamonds debut, it’s obvious the true sounds of R&B are being represented these days.

  1. I love how these artists are adding a serious TWIST to the R&B game. Kehlani’s mixtape has moved so many individuals to the point where people are mistaking it for an album! After reading this article I took a listen to Elijah’s shadows and diamonds and instantly fell in love! Even though R&B hasn’t been getting the attention it deserves I most definitely do believe that these artists are going to change the game. Just wait on it. You couldn’t have said it any better, the true sound of R&B is actually getting its true representation back again at last.
