Melanie Fiona, Bridget Kelly & Elijah Blake In Concert

Rico Love has been contributing to the culture over the years, and did so even more with his debut solo album Turn The Lights On. He has even spoken out multiple times on how we can improve hip-hop and R&B to make them more beneficial to people’s lives. He, himself, has spoken out on black culture not digging deep enough and becoming open about their emotions, and ironically enough, his point has already come alive via the projects hitting the airwaves.

R&B might not be the go-to “turn up” genre, but it has a place in the heart of hip-hop souls. There is a project, song, or collaboration that can match any scenario you can think of. Do you need to learn to love yourself? Put that Kehlani on. Are you the side chick, who’s in love with a man? Blast that K. Michelle through your speakers. Want to do a little old school two-step? You better have that Charlie Wilson Forever Charlie album on deck. Do you want a mix of turn-up and love songs? T-Pain’s The Iron Way won’t disappoint.

With a little dedication, research, and open ears, R&B fans are sure to find that perfect project that speaks to them in 2015. Rhythm and blues is completely flourishing this year and as of late, so you better wake up and build your playlists. –Lindsey India

  1. I love how these artists are adding a serious TWIST to the R&B game. Kehlani’s mixtape has moved so many individuals to the point where people are mistaking it for an album! After reading this article I took a listen to Elijah’s shadows and diamonds and instantly fell in love! Even though R&B hasn’t been getting the attention it deserves I most definitely do believe that these artists are going to change the game. Just wait on it. You couldn’t have said it any better, the true sound of R&B is actually getting its true representation back again at last.
