What does a dread-shaking, wild boy-style rapper do when he feels his favorite genre’s all partied out? He tours the world with EDM god Steve Aoki to re-discover the high.

And if you’re wondering, that’s what Waka Flocka Flame has been up to. The 27-year-old (and resident happy guy of hip-hop) is known for penning chart-topping, bass-heavy records about his gutter mentality and present-day Moet toasts to clappas. All fun and games (albeit no hands). But when he went off the map to infiltrate European dance crowds, fans questioned if they were losing their skateboard-loving god to electronic synths. “I’m just tired of hip-hop, it’s boring,” Waka answers simply about his decision to hit the road. “I was hot the same way 2 ½ years ago, so they like 2, 3 years behind me.”

However, the hip-hop rockstar won’t be forcing his way into EDM anytime soon, if ever. “I’m never gonna cross over. People f-ck up tryna force sounds on people that already love one,” he says, referencing his recent musical offerings, From Roaches to Rollies and Flockaveli 2 LP, set to hit shelves at the top of 2014.

We caught up with Mr. Flame to discuss Aokify America tour life, his time (and money spent) in Europe and why he’s growing beyond today’s hip-hop game. –Niki McGloster
