Pharrell Says ‘G I R L’ Is His “Best Work Yet”
by Staff Editor
Following his performance at the 2014 BRIT Awards with Nile Rogers, Pharrell had a quick chat with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. The super-producer gave some insight on why he named his forthcoming album G I R L down to the use of capital letters and spaces.
“The reason why I named it G I R L in capital letters is because when you look at it, it looks a little weird. And the reason why it does is because society is a little unbalanced,” the Neptunes leader said. “And I just thought like, if I’m gonna make an album, I need to make an album that says everything that I’ve ever wanted to say, like dreamt of.”
The “Happy” crooner wants to devote his sophomore effort to women for all they contribute to him professionally and personally.
“Women have been so good to me over this entire career and they’ve done so much for my family. Everything I’ve ever gotten is because they’ve paid for so they’re like my bosses—indirectly and directly. You guys are like my bosses. So for me, I wanted to analyze that for a second,” he said.
