Jermaine Dupri and Ne-Yo will be honored at the 27th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on Thursday Jun 26 hosted by The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). This invite-only awards show will also provide honors to the songwriters and publishers of the most performed tracks that made it to the R&B/hip-hop, rap and gospel charts.
During the evening Jermaine Dupri will be awarded with the ASCAP Founders Award for his work as a pioneer within hip-hop as an artist, songwriter and producer contributing to music and his peers. This award in the past has gone to the likes of Dr. Dre, Quincy Jones and Paul McCartney.
Recognizing Dupri’s achievements ASCAP President and Chairman stated “For over two decades, Jermaine has consistently provided the world with hit after hit after hit, many of which we already know as classics.”
Of those alluded classics, many were platinum efforts that were part of So So Def Recordings, tracks for artists ranging from Usher to Nelly, owner of a Grammy for Best R&B song and more honorable achievements.
Also within ASCAP’s magical night is the honor of Ne-Yo with the ASCAP Golden Note Award, which is provided to songwriters, composers and artists who achieved extraordinary career milestones. The award recognizes the accomplishments of Ne-Yo crafting tracks for himself and the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Jay Z.
“We are thrilled to present Ne-Yo with the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award this year. We can’t think of anyone else more deserving of this award based on the extraordinary career milestones we’ve seen him achieve through the years. We are excited to honor an artist who continues to push the limits of R&B and popular music with his incredible creativity,” added by ASCAP VP of Rhythm & Soul Membership Nicole George-Middleton.
In addition to those awards, others will be honored with awards such as Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Song, Top Rap Song and Top Gospel Song and will be the location for a host of performances from award-winning performers.
