First Listen: G-Unit – ‘The Beauty Of Independence’ EP
by Staff Editor
After treating us to a slew of freestyles and a few original tracks, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo and Kidd Kidd deliver their first official project as G-Unit since their infamous reunion at this year’s Summer Jam. The Beauty Of Independence EP sounds like a 2003 G-Unit mixtape and it seems like their independence from Interscope records has proven to be the right decision. Dishing off 6 brand new original tracks, the beloved G-Unit has picked up right where they left off.
Let’s break it down: Young Buck sounds hungrier than ever and is clearly on a mission for success. Lloyd Banks is sticking to his roots and dishing off the lyricism we’ve always loved from the PLK. Tony Yayo is still the same old Yayo and continuing to give the Unit the extra boost it always needed. Kidd Kidd is playing the “rookie” role quite well and continues to get better with each song. And as for 50 Cent, not a damn thing has changed since 2003 and you can hear the desire to win in every line.
With that being said, we’ve broken down The Beauty Of Independence EP in today’s First Listen. See our review of the EP and stream/purchase it on the following pages.
