Angie Martinez Explains Hot 97 Departure: “It Was Time For Me To Grow”
by Staff Editor
After dropping a social media bomb for all to swallow a couple of days ago, Angie Martinez joins The Breakfast Club to discuss why she made the power move from Hot 97 to rival station Power 105.1.
“Honestly, it was time for me to grow and to do things,” she explained. “I’m sure you all know this company offers so much opportunity for growth. I felt like I’ve done what I could do in that company. I think my friendships remain, I never really subscribed to because somebody else works somewhere else we have to be enemies.”
The surprise announcement left many wondering just how long this was in the works and questioning her loyalty to a company she’s called home for 15 years. Instead of consulting various people on whether this would be good idea, Angie kept this to herself only informing her man of her decision. “I really wanted to make this decision myself and feel good about it and feel like this was the best decision for my future and for my family.”
The Voice of New York has kept the noise level down to a minimum by ignoring social media chatter and the world’s opinions. Unless she’s following you or it’s been sent directly, Angie Martinez hasn’t seen it. “I want to move forward, I want to grow. I don’t want to get caught up in too many opinions because the decision is already done,” she said.
If it’s a question of loyalty, Angie reiterates that she’s never been one to fall into rival radio beefs.
“It’s business and people leave jobs all the time. I’m not disloyal at all. I’ve always been extremely loyal.”
