Angie Martinez is taking her talents to Hot 97’s rival station, Power 105.1. Starting her career at age 16 with the station, Angie’s afternoon show has been one of the highest rating shows in the country. Her abrupt departure from the station was announced via Instagram yesterday (June 18).

“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show. stay tuned…. Love, angie”

Following the radio host’s social media announcement, Power 105.1 retweeted her tweet and added a “smiling face with smiling eyes” emoji. Today, the station confirmed that Angie will be joining their lineup occupying her usual afternoon slot.

There is no explanation why she has made her switch but this has been one tumultuous year for Hot 97 with major shifts on their roster. Both host K Foxx and legendary DJ Mister Cee have left Hot 97 leaving plenty of controversy in their wake that landed on the then program director’s desk, Ebro Darden, who has since stepped down from that position.

“I think it’s just radio,” Ebro said in an interview with HipHopDX.“We’ve gone through a number of staff members and people just move on and want to go do other things. Some people tell the truth. Some people like to make up stories on their exit. Some things are great for websites and somethings are just business as usual. For us, this was just business as usual.”
