No One Wins If ‘Mr. Drizzy’ Responds

Jay Electronica and Jay Z dropped a surprise on Sunday with their own freestyle to Soulja Boy’s “We Made It.” Jay Electronica spent the first verse dropping black history lessons and religious references and even sparking more anticipation for his long-awaited debut album. However, similar to what happened with 2013’s “Control,” Jay Elec’s lyrical efforts were mostly overshadowed by the shot aimed at Drake by Hov. In Jay’s verse on the Roc Nation remix, he calls out Drake for flagrant comments made in a recent Rolling Stone interview regarding his art references. “It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references,” Drizzy said. “I would love to collect art at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.” Jay caught wind and gave a direct response: “Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk/ Silly me, rapping about shit I really bought/ While these rappers rap about guns they ain’t shot/ And a bunch of other silly shit they aint got.” So what now?

Why does the tone of conversation have to be so absolute regarding the outcome of these 2 battling?
“Either 1.) Jay knocks off one of the biggest and most promising acts in hip hop or 2.) Drake makes an Iverson-style crossover against Jay Z, making him look his age.”
Orrr 3.) Drake shows he’s no pushover, goes hard for once and proves he deserves to wear the crown. Then they hug it out and make up…? it’s all for sport anyway right? Is being afraid to lose a good reason for not fighting at all? Take Nas for example, using this logic he would’ve let the “ask Nas he don’t want it with Hov” line slide. Then you don’t get Takeover or Ether, and a GREAT moment in Hip-Hop.
Think about it, did MJ REALLY lose anything just cause AI crossed him up that once? Is his legacy in any way tarnished? Like really, look at where those two are now..
To your point that “nobody wins” I counter THE FANS OF HIP-HOP WIN.
