A$AP Rocky Drops A Cinematic Visual for “Babu$hka Boi”
by Staff Editor

Harlem’s finest, A$AP Rocky is far from mediocre. So you know he had to go over the top and deliver us a full-blown cinematic experience. After being held in prison in Sweden for an ‘assault case’, the comeback song “Babu$hka Boi” sets the record straight. Rocky is here to stay.
Watch the music video for “Babu$hka Boi” directed by Nadia Lee Cohen starring ASAP Ferg, Schoolboy Q, ASAP Nast, and Kamil Abbas.
Ironically, babushka is a headscarf tied under the chin traditionally worn by older Russian women and Rocky has been seen wearing it sporadically. Throughout the entire video, the dramatics, colors, make-up, and metaphors were creatively hilarious to watch. The song is dedicated to the scar on his face, as stated in the chorus:
I would like to dedicate to the scar on my face
All the stars of the globe, the world is yours, Scarface
He used an exaggerated gauze to emphasize the scar, while the rest of the gang wore heavy caricature make-up making the mini-film even more amusing. The story line follows the team robbing a bank during the 1920s-prohibition-era while being chased from the police who are seen as pigs.

In the video, the team includes Rocky’s friends: Ferg, Schoolboy, Nast, and Abbas. They all use tommy guns to rob the bank before running away in the most beautiful old fashioned, neon, and multi-colored car you ever saw. The visual shows them taking the cash from the teller and eventually running into a standoff with the pigs…I mean police.

According to Genius, “Babu$hka Boi” was performed by Rocky during the 2019 Injured Generation tour and will appear on his upcoming album.
During a GQ interview, he went into depth about the making of the song:
It was inspired by a situation I had where my face got cut, and I started walking around with a Babushka to cover it. It was about last September. It started with a yellow one when I was on Trevor Noah’s show. I actually did a Vogue shoot the day after I got my face slashed.
We hope he continues to bring out more dramatic experiences for the rest of the new album while bringing light to his past and minor setbacks.
Welcome home, Rocky, and well done.
