64 years after the lynching of Emmett Till, the story is finally being executively produced by Jay- Z and Will Smith. The duo is also teaming up with Aaron Kaplan, Jay Brown, and Carolyn Bryant to create this miniseries. Following repeatedly being shelved by HBO, the story has been picked up by ABC as part of the civil rights anthology series Women of the Movement and will be told from the perspective of Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley.
The women-driven series will focus on the tragic sequence of events surrounding her son’s murder lynching. Mamie Till- Mobley dedicated her life to seeking justice for her son, Emmett Till, the African American teenager who was brutally murdered in 1955 for reportedly asking a white woman on a date. The story of Emmett Till is one that will continue to impact generations from here on out.
The last time Jay-Z and Will Smith teamed up to produce was for the 2014 Annie Remake.
