Questlove Recalls Playing “Pop That” At White House Party
by Staff Editor
On a recent episode on Rick Ruben, Malcolm Gladwell, and Bruce Headlam’s Broken Record podcast, Questlove tells the funny story of a DJ gig at the White House during the Obama administration.
The Roots drummer recalls the story of him deejaying at a White House party in 2016 for then-President Barack Obama. As Obama praised him for his work, then requesting French Montana‘s “Pop That”.
As Questlove tries to tell the story using his best Obama voice, he speaks about the awkward song request. “[Obama’s] coming up to me like, ‘Do you have French Montana?’ And I’m like, ‘Sir! I don’t have the clean versions of that,'” he recalled. “He’s like, ‘We’re all adults here. Play it!’ I’m like, ‘Sir, I’m not gonna play ‘Pop that pussy, bitch, what ya twerkin’ wit.'”
