Van Lathan Starts Campaign To Boycott Madden 19 After Censoring “Colin Kaepernick” In ‘Big Bank’ On The Game’s Soundtrack

Less outrage…more outreach.
The TMZ correspondent virally known for his run-in with Kanye West’s “slavery was a choice” comments decided to put his money where his mouth is. Van Lathan responded to the social media backlash surrounding a leaked game version of the Madden 19 soundtrack that features a verse from Big Sean on YG‘s ‘Big Bank‘, in support of Colin Kaepernick, that was completely omitted. The lyric, mentioning him by name: “You boys all cap, I’m more Colin Kaepernick.”
“Less outrage … more outreach. @eamaddennfl and the @nfl tried to make our brother @kaepernick7’s name a dirty word. Not gonna happen,” Lathan wrote. “His work will continue and we will see to it. Instead of buying Madden, I’m donating 59.99 (the cost of the game) to Colin’s Know Your Rights Campaign, so he can continue the WORK he’s doing.”
bad enough @Kaepernick7 still not signed, but now they even edit his name out in this year’s @EAMaddenNFL during @BigSean verse, smh pic.twitter.com/3nvkB26z5r

The verse itself while relatively benign in expletives, is full-fleged in support of narrowing the wealth gap, affordable healthcare and growing businesses. “It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL & @EA took @Kaepernick7’s name out of my verse on Big Bank for Madden 19, like it was a curse word,” Big Sean wrote Thursday in a message posted to his verified Twitter account. “When he’s not a curse, he’s a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this.”
Once Van got word of the censorship, he took to Twitter to issue a challenge for people to donate the $59.99 they would use to purchase Madden 19 to donate to Colin’s Know Your Rights Campaign. The news was too hot to ignore and EA Sports issued a public apology stating they “screwed up”.
Hey man, we screwed up plain and simple. Gonna get it fixed right away. pic.twitter.com/cP9lRpy3xL

Twitter called bull on it quickly, recalling Madden 18’s soundtrack also had Colin’s name censored on a song called ‘Bars of Soap’ from Mike WiLL Made-It, “She be hoping that I take a knee like Kaepernick, yes”, the latter of course was removed. The campaign to donate has already picked up steam, Van challenged commentators Charlamagne Tha God & Angela Rye to join which they humbly obliged. Charlamagne has already responded to the call to action by tagging Angela Yee, T.I., Rapsody, DJ Envy, among others.
Kaepernick noticed the support and has since responded to Van and Big Sean’s tweets: “Much love brother! Thank you for having my back!” The song’s featured artist YG also shared his opinion on the matter: “EA Sports, NFL, whoever — y’all owe me, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, and the homie Kaepernick and an apology”
