Thousand of fans gathered at BB&T Center in Florida for XXXTentacion‘s open-casket memorial yesterday (June 27), and today, we receive the rapper’s new video for his song “SAD!”.
The video comes days after “SAD!” surged to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 following X’s fatal shooting on June 18.
The song, from his chart-topping March album ?, broke a Spotify single-day streaming record on its way to becoming the first posthumous No. 1 by a solo lead artist since The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems” in 1997.
On Saturday (June 23), director and frequent X collaborator JMP shared two photos of the rapper, smiling wide with his arms crossed. “This video will capture the minds and hearts of the masses,” JMP tweeted.
He continued, “You were truly ahead of your time Jah. I can’t thank you enough for how much I’ve learned about myself just from working with you. We created history together and I will forever be grateful for that opportunity. I know you will be watching over us. I love you forever brother #LLJ.”
Took this photo on set of SAD! music video that X and I have been working on for the past 3 months. This is my favorite photo of Jah. Look how geeked up happy he is! This video will capture the minds and hearts of the masses. Just wait.

There’s no doubt that XXXTentacion’s fans will make sure he stays alive in their hearts.

After the video premiere, a twitter fan broke down his interpretation of the visual and we think its worth a look.
“Gekyume” is what X calls his other state of mind.
His “other state of mind” wants to know who his fanbase are, and why the are following him. pic.twitter.com/940JMTWBdg— Ian Connor⚡ (@AsapIanConnor) June 28, 2018
When he is standing by his casket. He is wearing a shirt, with the words “Bad”
I know that is his clothing line, but what if he is acknowledging that he was a bad person. The ” old X ” tries to get him to be “bad” again, but X fights through it. pic.twitter.com/BtPi01Y0jO— Ian Connor⚡ (@AsapIanConnor) June 28, 2018
The dark sequences is supposed to see how difficult it is for X to get rid of his former image. But he fights the “old x” because he is trying to become a different person. pic.twitter.com/pmSAZnU2L6

There is a monkey on his hat, which could symbolize how “childish” he were. But when they start to fight, he takes of his hat. Which is a sign of that he is maturing, from the more “childish” person he was. pic.twitter.com/ZavDWZ8Tt6

X becomes the superior of his inner demons.
“You must understand the power of your mind”
And by that X is throwing him around with his mind.

This is the most important scene of the video.
X has “killed” the evil inside of him.
And he is leaving a note by the dead body.
“people change”
“And so did I”X has won the battle! pic.twitter.com/KpQIZYZIjV

“You have done well at battling yourself”
“Your demon seems to honor your effort”
“Are you satisfied?

His mind is speaking to him. Saying “well done” you won over your demon.
But are you satisfied with yourself?
And by leaving the room, X shows that he wanted to become a even better person.
