In 2014, Dr. Dre sold his stake in Beats to Apple for $300 million and declared himself “hip-hop’s first billionaire.” However, four years later, the race is still on. According to Forbes.com, Brooklyn’s own Jay Z is leading the race with a net worth of $900 million. Hov’s jump in value comes as no surprise when one takes in the ownership stakes in RocNation and Tidal, along with his interest in liquor brands: Armand de Brignac & D’Ussé cognac. Forbes has been reporting the the wealthiest hip-hop artists since 2011 & this is the first time the RocNation honcho has reached the number one slot.
Diddy falls to second place with Dr Dre following in third place. With all three constantly growing their brands with such a driving force, they have became the richest Americans musicians in all genres. Dr. Dre has a strong chance to surpass Jay Z & Diddy being he’s in line to receive Apple stock that values to over $100 million this summer.
Under hip-hop’s “Big 3,” Drake and Eminem tie at $100 million. From 2010, the Toronto star has raked in over $250 million before taxes along with stake in Virginia Black Whiskey and real estate in Canada & California. Eminem stands strong as the best-selling rapper thanks to his powerful run in the 2000’s.
