Justin Timberlake Explains Prince Tribute From Super Bowl LII
by Staff Editor
Justin Timberlake was the talk of the town last night as he served as the highly praised Super Bowl halftime performer during the Eagles vs. Pats showdown in Minnesota. Met with mixed reviews (per usual), JT kept his good energy flowing as he stopped past The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for another performance, a game of “Songversation” and most notably, an impromptu interview about his widely discussed Super Bowl performance.
Of course, the most talked about moment of JT’s Super Bowl performance was the inclusion of a virtual Prince (not hologram) performing āI Would Die 4 Uā as the city was then lit up in all purple to honor the legendary musician. When asked what made him choose to do it, JT said:
I just felt like I wanted to do something for this city and something for him that would just be the ultimate homage to what I consider the G.O.A.T. of musicians.
Questlove even gave JT his nod of approval saying the performance was “cool” and that JT did a great job.
Rumors were swirling before the Super Bowl that JT would be bringing out a hologram version of Prince, which several people were against due to Prince’s outspoken disdain for it, when he was still living. However, those rumors were quickly put to rest thanks to Sheila E Drummer, who spoke to Timberlake about how that wouldn’t be a great idea.
Family, I spoke w/Justin 2nite and he shared heartfelt words of respect for Prince & the Purple fans. I look 4wrd 2 seeing what Iām sure is going 2 be a spectacular halftime show. There is no hologram. šš½š pic.twitter.com/mhVXBfBa1B

In addition to his interview, JT engaged Fallon and Questlove in a game of “Songversation” and Timberlake hit the stage once again to perform “Supplies” and “Say Something” with Chris Stapleton. Check it all out below.
