Prince’s $1M Donation To Harlem Children’s Zone

In music, the name “Prince” is beyond legendary. Iconic, even. For those not in the know, Prince is currently on his Welcome 2 America Tour selling out venues with presumed relative ease. It is also a lucrative tour, which means Prince has the capabilities to use the money for even greater causes than padding his own bank account. The man, who let legend tells it knows how to play over 60 instruments, has taken it upon himself to ensure the next generation of entertainers are equipped with the tools for success.
Prince donated an astonishing $1M to the Harlem Children’s Zone and an additional $250,000 each to The Uptown Dance Academy and The American Ballet Theatre.
Prince also donated the solid gold Fender Custom Stratocaster guitar which he has used during the “Welcome 2 America†tour to raise money for the Harlem Children’s Zone. The iconic instrument was auctioned off last night by Charity Buzz at the concert afterparty at The Darby.
During the press conference, 30 students from the Harlem Children’s Zone got the chance to meet the musical icon. You could see how inspired and touched they were by Prince’s dedication to the youth, his unparalleled musical success and his generosity. Harlem Children’s Zone President and CEO Geoffrey Canada had this to say about the donation: “I want to thank Prince. I am touched and blown away by his generosity. This is unprecedented in my lifetime to see an artist come forward and invest in today’s children.”
This is a noteworthy move from one of music’s greatnest names. Still, this may not be a flash in the pan. Prince vows to donate to other organizations in the future to ensure the arts are always kept alive. Good stuff.
UPTOWN DANCE ACADEMY benefited by Princes’ generosity. The director of the school, Robin Williams (not THAT Robin Williams) and her mother, Precious have worked for years holding the school together on little else but prayers. The COMPANY of dancers are so outstanding they bring tears to your eyes with the magic they create with so little. The costume lady & sometimes ballet teacher, Trutti Gasparinetti, created head piecs out of kitty litter containers covered in material. Some of the costumes come from sheets or curtains or extra material she rips up from something else. They create miracles from nothing!! But talent shines through. No one deserves or can benefit more from Princes’ generosity. He has made their lives easier. I bow to this wonderful gift and this very special man. I am just an audience of Uptown Dance Academy and I was so touched I had to respond!!
Bless him and thank you for allowing comments!! Sincerely!!!!!
