Lil Nas X Wins His First Country Music Award For ‘Old Town Road’

Lil Nas X’s Diamond-certified chart-topper, “Old Town Road,” has proven to be country enough after winning a Country Music Award. The 53rd annual award ceremony was hosted in Nashville on Wednesday night (Nov. 13) where he won his award.

Lil Nas and Billy Ray Cyrus took home the “Musical Event Of The Year” trophy for the track’s genre-bending remix. The win is Cyrus’ second CMA award; he previously won “Single Of The Year” in 1992 for his country classic “Achy Breaky Heart.”

“I’m so happy this song was accepted because it is the bridge of the two [different] genres put together. I’m just happy it’s gotten respect from both communities,” Lil Nas said at a post-show conference following his latest historical win. Check out a recap below:
