Jay-Z Signs Former Mentor Jaz-O & announces partnership with cannabis company

As reported, Jay-Z has signed former mentor and collaborator Jaz-O to Roc Nation just two years after the duo reunited for the first time in nearly 20 years. The two had a fallout in 2002 after Jaz-O initially declined to sign with Jay during the inception of launched Roc-A-Fella records, citing the $300,000 deal and other grievances.
Jaz signed the distribution deal under Hov’s label and made the announcement on Instagram back in April. The deal reportedly stipulates that Jaz’s Kingz Kounty Media Group will be getting Equity Distribution from the imprint.
In other news, JAY-Z is also investing in the weed business. According to HerbCEO, it is a growing industry with massive potential so it makes sense that the business-minded JAY-Z would look to venture into it. The rapper partnered with California-based cannabis company Caliva as a Chief Brand Strategist.
Rolling Stone reports that Jay will help Caliva with creative decisions, outreach efforts, and strategy. He will also focus on social justice issues surrounding legalization, including “advocacy, job training, and overall employee and workforce development.”
“Anything I do, I want to do correctly and at the highest level,” JAY-Z said in a statement. “With all the potential in the cannabis industry, Caliva’s expertise and ethos make them the best partners for this endeavor. We want to create something amazing, have fun in the process, do good and bring people along the way.” Jay obviously sees the cannabis industry booming as does many people within the cannabis community. It comes as no surprise that this industry continues to grow, especially when companies offer weed deals for example to their customers.

Indeed, their reputation for understanding of cannabis products such as CBD Oil is already well established in the community. “To find that we were in complete alignment around our values and ethos was just a home run. We believe this partnership is unparalleled in this or any business and we could not be more pleased to be working with him and have him as our Chief Brand Strategist.”
