The streaming giant, Spotify, shows no signs in slowing down when it comes to cultivating innovative user experiences for music lovers.

Spotify has launched its latest “Social Listening” feature where listeners can build playlists in real time.

With Social Listening, listeners can build a track list by scanning a friend’s QR-style Spotify Social Listening code. This capability allows for users to listen to a song within close range or even halfway across the world.

Spotify Social Listening was first spotted by 23-year-old technology blogger and app researcher, Jane Manchun Wong. She discovered the code for the feature within Spotify’s Android app.

Although the Social Listening feature is new, the archetype for this feature has made an appearance back in 2011 with the former social music site, Turntable.fm, where listeners were able to join “rooms” to listen to a DJ.

Currently, the Social Listening feature is only available for Spotify employees. According to TechCrunch, a Spotify spokesperson stated:

“We’re always testing new products and experiences but have no further news to share at this time.”

Spotify did not provide any additional details on when the feature will launch.
