Jay-Z is giving the opporunity for college students to study abroad through his Shawn Carter Foundation. Designed by JAY-Z’s charitable foundation and the Institute for International Education (IIE)/Gilman International Scholarship Program the program was “designed to expand the global experiences and leadership opportunities for underserved students through establishment of full study-abroad scholarships.”

According to data from the foundation, 64 percent of the foundation’s scholars are first-generation college students, and according to The Institute of International Education, only about 5 percent of Americans who study abroad are black.

Students who are selected will be required to complete a service project while abroad. Past recipients have come from colleges such as Princeton, Northwestern University, and Temple University.
