Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus Collab for “Old Town Road” Remix

After getting No. 19 on the Hot Country chart Billboard removed Lil Nas X viral hit ‘Old Town Road’ for not being country enough. The single became popular earlier this year on the app TikTok before joining the Hot 100 four weeks ago. On TikTok, users sing, dance, or act along to popular music tracks, often using side apps (https://increditools.com/best-apps-to-get-followers-on-tiktok/) to help grow their audience. Old Town Road gained popularity so quickly that Lil Nas X probably didn’t have to consider using marketing tools to boost its reach. It was so much of a force on the app that many have managed to amass a giant amount of Tiktok followers due to the multiple “memes” made using the song, with others left trying to catch up after the wave. Still, this was sadly not enough to keep the song in its standing space on the Billboard, much to many people’s sadness.
“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard’s country charts,” Billboard said in a statement. “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is the musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
Upon the removal of the single, Lil Nas X has rightfully received a ton of support from artist across various genres, with one person inparticular being country music star Billy Ray Cyrus.
“Been watching everything going on with ‘OTR,'” the hitmaker tweeted at Lil Nas X.
