The Breakfast Club host, Charlamagne Tha God, discussed cancelling a New York Times TimesTalks with Kanye West on The Late Show yesterday night.
The purpose of the TimesTalks was to discuss the stereotypes surrounding mental health. The talk was scheduled for October 17th at New York’s Town Hall.
Charlamagne recently learned that West believed he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and was just sleep deprived. Charlamagne tells Stephen Colbert :
“For what I’m trying to do which is like elevate the conversation of mental health in the black community and you know, try to eradicate the stigma around mental health, I just didn’t think it’d be a good conversation…It’d be a distraction.”
Although the TimesTalks did not come into fruition, Charlamagne is set to end the year off right. His second book Shook Ones is now available for purchase. As he told Billboard in an interview published earlier this week, the title of the book is an ode to Mob Deep. Shook Ones shines light on mental health in the hip-hop and black communities. Charlamagne is also set to co-cost iHeartRadio’s first ever Podcast Awards show.
