Odell Beckham Jr. and Lil Wayne sat down for a joint interview with ESPN’s Josina Anderson. The two Louisiana natives discussed having one of the most successful years of their careers so far, how their Louisiana roots shaped them and the darkest moments of their careers; including Wayne’s suicide attempt and OBJ’s father.

16 minutes into the interview, Tha Carter V‘s closing track, “Let It All Work Out,” is being discussed, The song talks about Wayne’s suicide attempt, When asked about whether Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade’s deaths had anything to do with him deciding to be forthcoming with his experience, he explained, “That song has actually been recorded for probably over four years.”

“I felt that way when I thought the album was coming out. I was ready to come out with it then… The thought process doing that verse is… what made me do it was just, I was ready to get it off my chest.”

Odell even spoke about his issues with the New York Giants.

“A lot of it has to do with the energy that we have, that we don’t bring every single day. […] We just need to play with some heart.”

As the interview concludes, the conversation shifts back to Tha Carter V. Anderson asks how Weezy dealt with the weight of the expectation for the record.

“Embrace it, that’s the only way you’re supposed to deal with it,” he responds. Catch the full interview above.
