Artist: Always Never
Track: Wylin’
Hot Take: Wylin’ is the type of track you put on while you’re getting ready for the function, but meanwhile, you’re actually all the way inside your feelings. The Toronto-based singer/producer duo create a melodramatic soundscape with their self-titled project.
Artist: Symphani Soto
Track: Yours
Hot Take: Making her official foray into music, model and YouTuber Symphani Soto under the tutiledge of producer Bizness Boi debut her ‘I Am’ EP. ‘Yours’ sees the singer cooing over an Afrobeat-esque cadence into an radio-ready drum and kick. That pre-chorus is a killer too, check out this rising star’s intro.
Artist: Yung Baby Tate
Track: Too Long
Hot Take: Atlanta-bred singer/songwriter Tate Farris better knownas Yung Baby Tate is a self-taught prodigy that makes music that makes sense. Tate flexes a raw vocal over a snare driven track that sounds like something that would lace a So So Def All-Stars 2018 album.
Artist: Jazmyn Alexis
Track: Anime Eyes
Hot Take: Anime Eyes is definitely a colorful love letter to those who grew up on anime love stories. The Chicago-based singer/songwriter released the follow up to her debut ‘Cheesecake II: Sliced’ back in September, definitely worth a listen.
Artist: Twelve’len
Track: Let’s Stay
Hot Take: With a voice full and gritty with complex emotions, Twelve’len stays grounded in sticky instrumentals on ‘Let’s Stay’. Carol City’s Twelve’len blends the nuanced and airy on the track especially on the bridge that could have easily been lifted from Andre 3000’s ‘The Love Below’. Don’t sleep.
