Artist: Jack Davey
Track: Undone
Hot Take: New to some, but most notably known for her near decade-long stint in the Electro-R&B/Surf group J*DaVey, lead singer Jack Davey has been laying low creating new music and being a mother. Her most recent release, ‘Undone’ is a jazzy downbeat bop about unraveling in pleasure and is sure to please even the most contemporary of R&B fans.
Artist: Solo Smith
Track: Still In Love (f. Trey Graves)
Hot Take: It’s rare to stumble upon a fresh artist on their debut single, it’s even rarer for that song to be good. This guitar-driven, kick drum-paced track reminiscent of early The Internet is a melodic love letter that sounds as indie as it does truly authentic.
Artist: James Bambu
Track: In Your Mood
Hot Take: James Bambu paints and serene soundscape that definitely puts you in a mood. The Atlanta native sounds organic and soulful on ‘In My Mood’, lifted from his project ‘Del Sol’, a must listen.
Artist: Kennedy Rd.
Track: Last Night
Hot Take: Named from the road that raised her, the soulful Toronto native has only been out a year and has already made connections with Boi-1da and Wondagurl for her upcoming Cafe EP. The warped underwater sound that has made Toronto such an R&B hotbedĀ is alive on ‘Last Night’ as Kennedy Rd. coos over the track like a lullaby.
