Spotify’s playlists are important to artists that are seeking to increase their audience, according to Complex. Popular playlists on the program are always created by an editorial team made up of music lovers. But today Spotify announced that instead of having an editorial team do all the work, artists and labels can now submit new music for playlist consideration. This is exciting news for artists with smaller followings as, not only can they boost their following with the help of sites like UseViral, but they now also have the chance to reach people they might not normally be able to, should their track make the playlists.

On Wednesday Spotify launched a beta feature to allow content owners to send unreleased tracks to editors, creating “unprecedented, efficient, and easy access to Spotify’s entire global editorial team,” Spotify stated.

Artists and labels can also include information about the tracks they submit, including the genre or mood to help the editorial team make a consideration. Spotify will then use that information to decide what playlists the songs may appear on while considering the kinds of music their fans tend to listen to.

Vice President Of Content & Global Head of Shows & Editorial Of Spotify, Nick Holmsten stated, “The number one question we get from labels, artists, and their teams is: who do I speak to to get on Rap Caviar, Hot Country, ¡Viva Latino!, Ultimate Indie or other Spotify playlists? We’ve listened to feedback from the creative community and developed a new feature that enables them to easily submit unreleased music for playlist consideration to our entire worldwide team of playlist editors.”

This new avenue will diversify the ways artists can share new music. Spotify also stressed that “no one can pay to be added to one of Spotify’s editorial playlist.”
