by Staff Editor
Dr. Dre is set to produce a new biopic about Motown superstar Marvin Gaye, who tragically died in 1984 after being shot by his father. After the success of the Oscar nominated filmĀ Straight Outta Compton which grossed over $200m worldwide, Dr. Dre has been granted clearance by Marvin Gaye’s family estate to use the late singer’s music.
Gaye’s catalogue includes classic hits like What’s Going On, Sexual Healing and more. There have been numerous attempts to bring Gaye’s story to life in the past via. actor Lenny Kravitz, Cameron Crowe, James Gandolfini and Scott Rudin, however all have been unsuccessful.
At this moment the film is still in the early stages and no official release date has been set.
