Vogue Deems Cassie As R&B Queen
by Staff Editor
Cassie has been around for a long time. Many are mostly in awe at the lifestyle the singer lives and her ‘relationship’ with Sean “Diddy” Combs. But in case you didn’t know, Cassie had a strong impact her first year or two in the music industry. In 2006, she released her record “Me & U” which ended up being the biggest song that year generating over 2 million downloads.
Since “Me & U” things haven’t been very consistent with the singer but she holds a solid fanbase. In 2017 she dropped “Love A Loser” featuring G-Eazy off her new album which gained over 10 million streams.
Although the stats are pretty impressive for somebody in Cassie’s situation, is it enough to call Cassie an R&B Queen? Recently Vogue Magazine did a piece declaring Cassie an R&B Queen off of the same stats mentioned earlier. The magazine even goes on to say that the singer pioneered a “minimal R&B sound which has influenced the current music landscape.”
Many people online didn’t agree with the magazine’s editorial. When you think of a Queen, you think of their influence on the culture along with their current resume. The average R&B fan will probably name Beyonce as the Queen. Cult following, sold out tours in stadiums & consistent platinum plaques all matter in the case.
Cassie has been here for a while and she did come into the game with a hit. But to deem her Queen, may be a stretch.
