This Friday (Feb 2), PBS will be premiering a new program deemed Great Performances – Nas Live from the Kennedy Center: Classical Hip-Hop highlighting the life and career of Nasir Jones as he performs at the beloved Kennedy Center.
The upcoming program will give viewers an inside look at the inspiration behind Nas’ music and his early life growing up in the Big Apple. The show will alternate from candid reflections from the emcee, to photos from his youth, backstage footage and a memorable performance of “Illmatic”. Joined by the National Symphony Orchestra, Nas performs hit songs like “N.Y. State of Mind,” “The World Is Yours,” “Memory Lane (Sittin’ in Da Park)” and “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” to create a classical hip-hop journey.
