Civil Scope: Key Glock
by Staff Editor
Being that you have someone like Dolph in your corner, do you feel like there’s a greater pressure in terms of the quality of music that you deliver?
Key Glock: No, I don’t feel any pressure. I know what my craft can do. I feel like all the other rappers should be feeling the pressure right now. They should be worrying about Glock. For real. [laughs]
You dropped your Glock Season mixtape back in June. What was your creative process like throughout it all?
Key Glock: Man, I worked on that tape for about a year. I was begging for them to put it out. I didn’t really have any real criteria to go by. I just went to the studio, unplanned and unannounced, and would record 4 or 5 songs a day and we would just mix and master songs until we came up with a tape that matched the theme and name. Right now, I probably have about another 2 or 3 tapes ready, but I’m still recording.
Glock Season is a completely solo affair without any guest appearances from other rappers. Was that done intentionally?
Key Glock: It was most definitely done on purpose. That’s how I’m going to keep rocking, all Glock, nothing but Glock. I want to show everyone what I can do.
If you were to describe your sound and/or personality to someone who never heard of you and your music before, how would you describe it all?
Key Glock: I’m passionate! If I could, I’d put out a song everyday. That’s how much I love all of this. Overall, my style is pretty laid back across the board.
Are they any key people in your life or other artists that you look to for inspiration for your music?
Key Glock: Just the main people in my life, God and my mother. As far as everybody else, if they can do it, I can do it.
Within the next 5 years, what do you hope to have accomplished with your career?
Key Glock: I will have me at least 10 to 15 no. 1 songs. Everything that I’m doing right now, I’ll be on top by then. Really, I would say by the next year, not 5. Y’all haven’t seen nothing yet. Glock Season was the teaser. The pressure is on them to get this next project out there.
