The latest headlines to surround iLoveMakonnen is the combination of his coming out, a peculiar reaction to the news from Migos and his departure from Drake’s OVO Sound. In a new interview with The Fader, the Atlanta native provides extensive details on all the aforementioned pieces and more.

Opening the interview, iLoveMakonnen detailed his coming out and not having any fear.

“I’ve been a fighting motherfucker, I’ve been living, I’ve been to jail, I done did the real shit already,” Makonnen said. “Saying I’m gay, that’s like, “Oh shit, I’m man enough!” In this current day and age, where everybody is being so real and so out, and so, you know, straightforward, I was like, I guess I might as well be part of the movement, right?

As one of the few openly gay rappers there was expected backlash from the hip-hop community, however, comments from Migos in their own interview stood out above the rest. The trio originally spoke out against Makonnen’s choice, but eventually issued an apology for their statement. In the interview, Makonnen passed off their statement as a misunderstanding and appeared nonchalant toward it. In regards to their apology it appeared to the “Tuesday” creator it lacked sincerity.

“Y’all gotta do y’all for face game to save your face. Y’all gots to do y’all. I’m gon’ always do me. I got no animosity towards y’all… It’s whatever,” iLoveMakonnen shared. “Ain’t nobody hit me up personally. Y’all want to reach out to me? I’m not hard to find! I’m not hiding from nobody. Don’t talk on me saying I feel like I have to hide, don’t mention anything about me.”

Also in the interview, Makonnen shared on his relationship, or lack thereof, with Drake. The rapper claims back in August his former label head threatened him in the middle of New York City’s Up&Down Club during the MTV Video Music Awards weekend.

“I’m in here around these Vanguard Awards and I’m accepted and I took pictures with Chainsmokers and G-Eazy and everybody and we all friends. And I’m here in the middle of the floor, no security, and they coming and I just step to the side and they see me and stop and the biggest motherfucker in the game goes, woo woo woo, ‘Next time I’ma fuck you up!’”

While there has been recent issues on the iLoveMakonnen front he also let it be known that good things are still in motion. He is still a signee of Warner Bros. Records and has music on the way.

Be sure to check out the interview were he details letting his mom know he was gay, living between California and Atlanta and more on The Fader.
