Civil Scope: Kris Kasanova
by Staff Editor
There are a couple features in there, how hard is it to have people who can match what you are going through?
Kris Kasanova: The features are people I consider my family. They come to my crib, they hand out with my son. We actually don’t have as much music as we supposed to have because how close we are. The features know what I’m going through. Somebody like Mike Classic, that’s my brother, I’ve known him too long. He hit me up like if you need something I’m here for you. Eric Lottary, over time I come to North Carolina he got me. When he come here for a trip he can be at my crib and I’m not. They were already in the vibe because it was taken a toll on them because it took a toll on me. I just wanted to put them on as a thank you for supporting me.
You detail this as it falling together on its own. How different is that from creating other projects?
Kris Kasanova: That’s the thing. I’m trying to find a way to balance it. I’m really good at setting you in a mood for a good period of time. I don’t want to say it’s difficult but I think I’m very versatile. It’s the Gemini in me. I feel like Pac at times, he can do a “Hail Mary” and then a “Brenda’s Got A Baby.”
The project is concise, if you could pick one song to win over a new fan what would it be?
Kris Kasanova: I think it would be “Try to Make It.” It zeroes in on my ambition and it’s from a real stand up emotion and feeling. We all trying to make it and then looking at it like we all did make it. If you are able to smile and be there for your friends and they’re there for you, you made it. That’s the best song to describe me to the tee.
What key lessons have you learned early on?
Kris Kasanova: To be myself. I feel like there’s a lot of people that are like me but afraid to be like me. I’m very honest with myself and the people around me in a time where playing a role or hiding behind something is a better look. People don’t want to seem like they are able to fold. My biggest thing to any artist is be yourself.
What are your goals for the rest of the year?
I’m dropping another project. The thing that don’t work is not working. I want to drop another project and grab more fans. I want to take you on this journey. This project since it’s been out has changed me and I want to give everyone an update to what’s going on with me.
