PJ Morton decided to break away from his notorious Maroon 5 bandmates to try a little something, something on his own.

His single, “Claustrophobic” made it’s debut on Solange Knowles’ SAINT HERON. PJ went on in his interview with the publication to explain the track was inspired by the frustrations he’s faced in the music industry of people trying to change him in order to make a profit. Rather than focus on the material things that gets the attention of the masses, the singer would rather be appreciated for his art.

“Yes – I want a lot of people to hear my music. Yes – I want to play huge venues. But I don’t want to do it at the expense of not being who I am or at the expense of not saying what I want to say. That is basically where this song came from.”

Be on the look out for PJ’s upcoming album, Gumbo, in April.
