Levi Carter

Levi Carter - RocnationTaking a look at your new project it’s largely you, and hardly any features. Is that something you wanted to aim toward with your Roc Nation debut?

Levi Carter: It’s one of the things I been doing, and I don’t know if you noticed, but on Antisocial, I didn’t have any features on there either. I don’t try to make music with people, I’m really focused on myself unless an opportunity comes first. Right now, I’m just working.

Did you make the project in New York? Was it hard to follow-up on Anti-Social?

Levi Carter: I did it in Virginia, but nah, not at all. But I wanted to evolve. On Anti-Social, it was sounds that I experimented with. I took the sounds I still like from that tape and evolved them, made them ten times better. It’s going way harder right now. It gets critical.

Did you approach the project different? Any new practices?

Levi Carter: Nah, that’s why I went back to Virginia. Getting back to my same environment, and getting down to it. I didn’t write anything here. It was pretty cool to go back and follow up on the same process. I write all my stuff in spur of the moment, and on my last project I wrote within two days. This project I was spread out. Two songs one week. Three songs another week.

Have you had the chance to have a one-on-one with Hov yet?

Levi Carter: Nah I haven’t met Hov. That will happen soon. It’s one of those things. Hov is a busy man, so I don’t press that. It will be one of those organic things. I’m not tripping on meeting Hov right now. As long as he sees my work ethic and sees that I’m working on my own. I got Made in America coming up so I’m sure it will happen soon. I’d rather it just happen organically and not be set up.

You think you will be starstruck on that organic meeting?

Levi Carter: I don’t really get starstruck. It will be one of those things where I’m happy I met Hov. I don’t want to put someone outside their position because they still a regular person. I’m trying to be where he at. Of course I’m going to show him love, but I’m trying to be where he at.

What do you have planned for Made in America?

Levi Carter: I got a lot of stuff planned. I’m trying to go in there with energy, and a lot of people who don’t, more that don’t, know me. I’m ready to give that energy and set that tone from the jump on what type of person I am. If you never heard my music you will have no choice to like me after. I just want to go hard and show the people why I’m worthy of being on that stage.
