Where are you from and how has it affected your music?

Didda Joe: I’m born and raised from the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana and one thing about Indiana is that it is responsible for The Jackson 5, Babyface, and many other great people in music industry. Knowing that, when I moved to Los Angeles I had to really come with my A-game and give it my all!

You go by the name of Didda Joe, tell me what inspired that stage name?

Didda Joe: Funny story… When I was in 8th grade, I was in art class and I had a guy ask me why people would call me “D.J,” when another friend of mine came around and answered before I could by saying “Didda Joe Mama.” Everyone starting looking at each other and laughing since he was referring to a “Yo Mama” joke. So what started as a classroom joke then evolved into a name that grew and I have stuck with it ever since then.

For our readers who don’t know, when did you start to take music seriously?

Didda Joe: Oh man, music has been with me ever since I was in my mother’s womb. Both my parents are musicians and I recently just heard a cool story from my mom where she said that before I was born, her and my dad would brainstorm my name and think about a name that would sound good if their son was a musician. I know it sound so weird, but I really feel like they spoke that into existence and everything that they did for me felt right in place. I also remember being young and going around the house, picking up the drums which then lead to playing the piano and reading music by the age of 10. It then kept growing as I learned to play the violin and the guitar.

Who are some influencers who have inspired your music career?

Didda Joe: First and foremost, my man Prince, he is one of the biggest influencers in music for me. Not to mention, the inspirations I get from Michael Jackson, Babyface, Musiq Soulchild, and Marvin Gaye. Nonetheless though, Prince has always been my main one.
