President Barack Obama Meets With Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Wale & More To Discuss ‘My Brother’s Keeper Initiative’
by Staff Editor

This afternoon (April 15), President Barack Obama met with several top music artists to discuss two different Administration priorities: criminal justice reform and the president’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
Over the last few months, many of these artists have already lent their voice and help to these two issues.
Those artists include folks like J. Cole, who established the Dreamville Foundation to provide opportunities for the urban youth in his city, and Wale who encourages the youth to “beat the odds.”
For the younger generation, we have folks like Chance The Rapper, who has led several campaigns against non-violence in his hometown of Chicago. The President’s hometown, as well.
Busta Rhymes has vowed on numerous occasions to change the nation’s corrupt prison systems, Janelle Monae has encouraged the youth to use their right to vote, while the OG Common has assisted the president behind the scenes directly with the My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
During today’s meeting, the President discussed ways in which his Administration can continue to work with these artists to highlight the importance of reforming our nation’s criminal justice system, as well as expanding opportunity for all young people, specifically those of color. We’d say it was a success.
