Michael Jackson Peace Sign

Even after his untimely death, Michael Jackson, the undeniable King of Pop, continues to impact the world of music. Adding to his laundry list of accomplishments and records, MJ has another important one to add to the collection. His classic album Thriller becomes the first album of all time to go 30x platinum in the U.S., according to Billboard.

Here’s a quote from RIAA chairman and CEO Cary Sherman:

“RIAA has awarded Gold & Platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30X multi-Platinum plateau,” Sherman said. “We are honored to celebrate the unique status of Thriller in Gold & Platinum history. What an exceptional achievement and testament to Thriller‘s enduring spot in our hearts and musical history.”

Rest in Peace, Michael. We’ll be moonwalking in your honor to celebrate this amazing achievement.
