Civil Court: Did Dr. Dre’s ‘Compton’ Album Make Up For ‘Detox’ Never Releasing?
by Staff Editor
SHAWN: How much more can we really ask for from Dr. Dre? We should forget about Detox because Compton is way more important to the hip-hop culture due to it’s ties within the Straight Outta Compton film, making it a historic release. When you examine Detox it was an album we heard about forever and longer only for it to never see the light of day. In contrast we heard about Compton one week and the next it was delivered to us, that alone should be a treat to fans who were beginning to think we would never heard a full-length project from Dre again. Furthermore, what we didn’t hear from Dr. Dre may be for the better in the case of the listener. For Dre to scrap a project that he put years into proves that it wasn’t adequate enough for our ears by his standards, but Compton is. These sentiments were echoed by DJ Premier who put in work on the album so we shouldn’t be worried about some tracks Dre decided to store on his hard drive for that rare rainy day in Southern California.
But aside from those details, Compton is a quality piece of work. Amazing production, features from hip-hop stars, introduction of some new blood in rap and R&B infusion from some of the best that are out to create a piece that could only come from the lab of the good doc. Let’s just enjoy the gift we have been given, thanks Dr. Dre.
