Civil Court: Did Dr. Dre’s ‘Compton’ Album Make Up For ‘Detox’ Never Releasing?
by Staff Editor
Most hip-hop fans would agree that the most anticipated project in the genre would have to be Dr. Dre’s rumored Detox album, but it looks like the legend of it has come to an end. The veteran producer has just dropped his new album, Compton, inspired by the movie Straight Outta Compton, which is set to be his last.
The new project contains features from many of our favorite West Coast artists, as well as some more unfamiliar names, and even has some qualities to be considered a classic in years to come. While Dre didn’t seem to disappoint true hip-hop listeners, some still have their curiosity being unfulfilled. Detox had an anticipation run that lasted over a decade in the rumor mill, and it definitely had most itching for a taste. Some, on the other hand, might not have anticipation for the project, but just another Dre album in general. Those who really missed the sounds of the Cali producer find themselves relieved now that Compton has hit the music streets.
Two of our writers go head-to-head in our latest Civil Court to argue whether Compton has really made up for Detox never hitting our airwaves. Check out their sides on the following pages.
